About this position
Postdoctoral researcher - AI-Based Multimodal Data Integration at the University of Luxembourg, working within the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) and the Integrative Cell Signalling group led by Prof. Dr. Alexander Skupin.
This postdoctoral opportunity sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, bioinformatics, and systems biomedicine. The successful candidate will develop AI-supported methods and analysis pipelines for heterogeneous multimodal data, including multiomics, imaging, and functional data, with a strong emphasis on neurodegenerative disease models. A major part of the work involves integrative analysis of stem cell-derived brain cells, multimodal data harmonisation, automated data workflows, and the investigation of microgravity effects in collaboration with Exobiosphere.
The research environment is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together experimental neuroscientists, bioinformaticians, mathematical modellers, and software engineers. The group’s scientific focus includes brain energy metabolism and its role in disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and related neurodegenerative processes. The role also includes supporting reproducibility, documentation, scientific publications, presentations, and consortium deliverables.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD in bioinformatics, computer science, computational biology, physics, data science, or a related area; strong programming skills in Julia, Python, or C/C++; experience with machine learning/AI frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow; experience with omics data management and heterogeneous datasets; and familiarity with SQL. Experience in deep learning, transformers, LLMs, generative AI, HPC, and multimodal integration is highly desirable. English at professional C1 level is expected.
Funding and contract: fixed-term full-time postdoctoral contract for 24 months, with a yearly gross salary of EUR 87,306.
Application: submit a CV, cover letter, PhD diploma or expected defence confirmation, transcript, and publication list via the online HR system. Applications are reviewed as they are received, and email applications are not accepted.
Location: Belval Campus, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.
